A non-slip grip is essential for fast and accurate shooting.  Everything that can be done to eliminate slippage and help you recover back on target is a major asset to your ability to fire rapid controlled repeat shots.  Checkering of the frontstrap and mainspring housing is a big help, but you still need to be able to grip the pistol tightly side to side too.  Sharply checkered grip panels are the answer and the exotic wood panels we install on our pistols are beautiful as well as functional.  And they are cut for ambidextrous safety.
