For those on a tight budget who need
a fume hood to safely process evidence for latent prints using chemical
solutions containing solvents and latent print powders, this fume hood is
the right one for you. It is economically priced and is lightweight enough
to take to a crime scene if the need arises.
The Chemical Work Station is built
to the same stringent standards as the Ductless Fume Enclosures. This high
quality unit eliminates hazardous fumes and vapors and conforms to all OSHA
requirements. All panels are clear acrylic for 360° visibility, and an
external fluorescent light fixture makes work easy to see. An
electostatically charged pre-filter protects the main filter from particle
contamination and collects dust down to 0.5 microns. One pre-filter is
supplied with the unit and packs of additional pre-filters are available
separately. It is recommended that the pre-filter be changed about every 3-6
months, depending on usage.
There are two recommendations for
configurations on the filters for this unit. If you are going to use this
unit for dusting with latent print powders only (no liquid chemicals),
install a HEPA Filter. If you are going to use this unit mainly for liquid
chemicals, install a Hydrocarbon Filter.
With the Hydrocarbon filter,
safely use solvents, such as Glacial Acetic Acid, Acetonitrile, Ethyl
Alcohol, Methylene Chloride, Petroleum Ether, Acetone, Cyclohexane,
2-Propanol, Ethyl Acetate and Xylene among others. It is necessary to keep a
log of the time and the types of chemicals you use in the unit. Draeger
tubes are also useful to test the air leaving the unit to determine when the
filters should be replaced. |
